The HT Film Society, created to offer exposure to classic, popular contemporary and art house films, both domestic and international, provides students opportunities to view unique cinema they might never have seen.
The Society originated primarily as a screening organization, opening with an introduction of the film to the audience and ending with the promotion of a debate/discussion about the film. In Spring 08, in collaboration with the Writers' Studio, the Society also hosted talks with filmmakers Noland Walker and John Sayles. We plan to expand this format to include longer discussions and the inclusion of area filmmakers, scriptwriters, and actors.
The Film Society began its second year with a showing of Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam War allegory, Apocalypse Now. Originated by English Professor Bryce E. North, the Huston Tillotson University Film Society has previously screened such films a The Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars, Do the Right Thing, The Harder They Come, and X. Future presentations include The Shining, Strangers on a Train, and El Norte.
