Beta Kappa Chi (BKX)
National Scientific Honor Society
Purpose: Beta Kappa Chi has the purpose of encouraging the advancement of scientific education through original investigations; the dissemination of scientific knowledge; and the stimulation of high scholarship in the pure and applied sciences.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students are eligible for membership if they rank in the upper fifth of their class; have completed at least 64 semester hours of course work; a GPA of at least B in the science area; and a general college average of at least “B”.
The letters BKX, which appear on the key, symbolizing election to membership in the Society, mean “Science holds the golden key to the Royal Palace of Knowledge.” This society was founded by men who believed in the slogan and who emphasized quality of training and performance in their efforts to interpret the place of science in a liberal education.
The HT chapter of BKX consists of members from the following disciplines: Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science and Psychology. The sponsors are Mrs. Carolyn Golden, Asst Professor of Computer Science and Dr. Kathy Schwab, Prof. of Biology.
