Alpha Kappa Mu

Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, a general scholarship honor society open to students in all academic areas, was founded at Tennessee State College (now Tennessee State University) on November 26, 1937. The Society’s purpose “is to promote high academic scholarship; to encourage sincere and zealous endeavor in all fields of knowledge and service; to cultivate a high order of personal living; and to develop an appreciation for scholarship and scholarly endeavor in others.”

Membership in Alpha Kappa Mu is limited to juniors and seniors. Candidates for membership must have earned a 3.3 GPA or better and rank in the upper 10% of their class.

The Kappa Xi Chapter at Huston-Tillotson University is one of over 67 chapters of Alpha Kappa Mu nation wide.
